The House of Martell has announced its partnership with Jean
Nouvel, one of the world’s most famous modern architects. The collaboration has
given rise to the Martell Amber Lamp: a polysemic sculpture created as a tribute
to the luscious golden viscosity of Martell cognac.
‘I wanted to express the warm, deep, amber burst of Martell
cognac, to fascinate the eye by suggesting the many different interpretations
of the lamp,’ says Jean Nouvel. Indeed, the richly organic object, composed of
a glass bulb with a sleek metal staff, emits pulsing, shimmering waves of light
that suggest a range of different interpretations: a cognac glass, a grape or
piece of fruit, a living heart.
Crafted in France,
20 models of the Martell Amber Lamp have been produced to be displayed in
prestigious art galleries and museums across the globe, including the Center
of Architecture and Design in San
Francisco and Jean Martell’s Château de Chanteloup in Cognac.
