From March 21, Porsche will start taking orders for its highly anticipated 918 Spyder, the first publicly available hybrid sports automobile from the German car makers. To ensure the 918 Spyder’s global
exclusivity, Porsche will produce just 918 examples of the model, starting at $845,000 each.

First revealed at the Geneva Motor Show 2010, the cutting-edge concept car will introduce hybrid technology into the venerable luxury automotive manufacturer’s oeuvre. Marrying super high performance with low fuel consumption and emissions, the 918 Spyder boasts a high revving 500-plus horsepower V8 engine, boosted by two
electric motors with a total horsepower of at least 218. Despite the impressive specs, Porsche says
the two-seater hybrid will consume just 3.0 L for every 100km, based on the New European Driving Cycle.

Echoing the supercar’s ecologically sustainable bent, the 918 Spyder’s design aesthetic features a sleek, carbon fiber-reinforced plastic monocoque and striking green accents on the brake calipers and the piping of the leather seats. Production begins in September 2013.
