Yellow armpit stains are often the result of using too much deodorant. If you suffer from excessive sweating, also termed hyperhidrosis, then this can be a common problem. The problem is that the deodorant builds up under pits and around the collar and can stain the garment if left untreated. Over the years, as deodorant formulas have changed, the problem has actually become more acute and these days millions of people are looking for an effective way to get rid of yellow armpit stains rather than having to bin the garment.

Here are some of the wackier methods that have been tried, as you can see, I dont really recommend them, but if you are game for a laugh then feel free to try them out – just dont send me the bill!

  1. Use mouthwash. Apparently  clear mouthwash can shift these stains. I haven’t tried this personally – because I don’t want my shirts to smell of Listerine, but I’m told the results can be quite good. Don’t try this on delicate fabrics.
  2. Use chalk. That’s right, good old household (or school) chalk can shift those stains. Again, I don’t really believe this one but it seems quite harmless. Apparently you damp the stain and rub with a piece of chalk, I have even read that you can colour match the chalk to the garment but that just sounds a bit too much like colouring in to me.
  3. Crush aspirin and mix with water to form a paste. Its certainly one way to get rid of the headache of armpit stains (groan!) but its fiddly, messy, doesn’t really work , takes forever to do and probably ends up costing more in the long run than buying a new shirt. Why would you bother?

Personally, I like to put my faith in tried and trusted commercial products to help get rid of my armpit stains. One of the best that I have found is a solution called deo-go. You can buy this online in small bottles and its a simple spray, brush and wash process that really does get rid of stains without resorting to drugs, chemicals or black magic. Check it out on the official website.
