Whisky connoisseurs and Albert Watson enthusiasts turned up
to show their support for The Macallan Masters of Photography: Albert Watson
Edition exhibition on June 23 at Club Lusitano in Hong Kong.
Following on the heels of the inaugural Masters of
Photography series by Rankin, The Macallan commissioned Scottish photographer Albert
Watson to trace the journey of its exceptional oak casks by embarking on a
12-day journey. From the entrancing forests of Northern Spain to the traditional
cooperage in Jerez, Watson captures the history of The Macallan Distillery in
all its glory and poignancy.
Providing 60% of The Macallan’s distinctive flavor, the sherry seasoned oak casks were the prime subject of Watson’s photography. A sand animation performance lent the evening an extra dose of artistic charm.
For those waiting to get their hands on the prints, a limited collection of 1,000 boxsets featuring a bottle of
The Macallan Sherry Oak 20-year-old whisky – with a specially commissioned set of 10 portfolio prints accompanying each boxset – will be available for purchase
worldwide.
About Albert Watson: Having shot for over 240 covers of Vogue and Rolling
Stone – some of his most iconic portraits include Alfred Hitchcock, Mick Jagger
and Kate Moss – Watson is renowned for his provocative images. Besides being
touted as one of the 20 most influential photographers of all time by Photo
District News, he was awarded the prestigious Centenary Medal from the Royal Photographic Society in 2010.
