After an exhilarating exhibition match
featuring two tennis legends and two future tennis aces, Longines hosted a
charity dinner at the Petit Palais last Saturday in support of the foundations
run by its two ambassadors, Andre Agassi and Stefanie Graf.
During the gala, Andre Agassi presented the
Longines Prize for Elegance to Jim Courier, two-time winner of Roland-Garros,
to honour his work with children through his foundation,
Courier’s Kids. His charity organisation provides tennis training and other
educational opportunities for disadvantaged youths in the US.
The evening brought together A-list
celebrities, well known sportsmen and women, special guests and representatives
of the world press. Among the many guests were Jim Courier, Andre Agassi and
Mary Pierce – all former Roland-Garros champions – as well as Pat Cash, who
represented the world of tennis.
After the award presentation, Florence
Ollivier-Lamarque, General Director of Swatch Group France, and Walter von
Känel, President of Longines, presented Jim Courier with a cheque for $100,000
for his foundation—all told, a very charitable and heartening evening for all.
