The Hong Kong-based tailor opened the long-awaited 5,000 square foot New York store on Central Park South. Renowned for his bespoke tailoring, Ascot Chang had his humble beginnings in Shanghai, where he apprenticed under a custom shirt maker at the age of 14. Having established a loyal following in Hong Kong, Chang opened his first Ascot Chang store on Kimberly Road in 1953. In the next five decades, the family-run business would go on to open 11 other retail locations in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Manila and Beijing.
Ascot Chang blends traditional Shanghai tailoring with contemporary styles. In addition to using single needle French seams and handpicked mother-of-pearl buttons, the company also sources its fabrics from the world’s finest, including designs by Alumo, Thomas Mason, Loro Piana, Albini and Monti.
Named the “Best of the Best” by Robb Report and “One of the best known Hong Kong tailors” by The Wall Street Journal, the line has expanded to include pure silk ties, cashmere sweaters, scarves, braces, socks and cufflinks.
