Since 1975, renowned artists from all over the world have
been transforming BMW automobiles into pieces of art, each signifying a
particular period. This year, the 17th BMW Art Car, created by celebrated pop
artist Jeff Koons, will be showcased at the Hong Kong International Art Fair, on
the first stop of its tour through Asia.
The Art Car will be exhibited at the Hong Kong International
Art Fair from May 26 to 29. Pop artist Jeff Koons assembled dynamic images of
speeding race cars and explosions to envelop the BMW M3 GT2 in a vibrantly
colored skin evocative of power, motion and energy. “These race cars are like life, they are powerful
and there is a lot of energy,” said Koons.
“You can participate with it, add to it and transcend yourself
with its energy. There is a lot of power under that hood and I want to let my
ideas transcend with the car – it’s really to connect with that power.”
Apart from the Art Car, BMW Hong Kong also invited four
local artists, Telly, Alex, Beatrice and Kei, graduates from the School
of Design at the Hong
Kong Polytechnic University,
to utilize BMW auto parts to create modish, startlingly innovative furniture.
The furniture pieces will be displayed at the Hong Kong International Art Fair
and sold at public auction after the exhibition.
