Christie’s is to hold a two-day wine sale in the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong, featuring a selection of exceptionally fine and rare wines.
Comprising 787 lots valued at over HK$70 million (US$9 million), the sale will include Treasures from a Connoisseur, a collection of wines which were bought at one of Christie’s great single-owner sales, The Magnificent Cellar of the Late William A.M. Burden in 1996.
The wines have been stored ever since in a custom-made wine storage unit and have been untouched for the past 14 years. Highlights of the collection are a variety of pre-war Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) and large-format Lafite.
Among the DRC vintages in superb condition are 1929, 1934, 1937, 1952, 1953, 1955, 1961 and 1971 respectively, which are rarely found in a single collection. In addition, plenty of Impériale and Jeroboam sized Lafite from the distinguished vintages of 1953 and 1961 will also fall under the hammer.
Christie’s will also offer several lots from The Vintage Wine Fund, a wine investment fund established by Andrew Davison in 2003. The wines have been cellared under the finest and most scrupulously maintained conditions at the Octavian warehouse in London, the world’s premier wine storage facility.
Leading the way is some pristine Yquem as well as imperials of Château Lafite 1982 which are valued at HK$350,000-500,000 per bottle.
The sale will be held on March 4-5.
