If you could recreate your best friend, would you do it?
Long regarded as the Pandora’s Box of the medical community, different societal sects have fervently voiced their opposition to cloning ever since the successful conception of Dolly, the world-famous clone sheep, in 1996.
Peter Onruang, a L.A. businessman has paid $310,000 to clone his two best dog friends: ‘Wolfie’, who passed away in 2007, and ‘Bubble’, who followed suit two years later. Having saved the dogs’ stem cells, Onruang started HollywoodPaintball.com to earn the money to have them cloned. He also founded RNL Bio, a South Korean biotechnology company that specializes in the cloning of animals.
As to whether he supports the idea of cloning humans, Onruang was unwavering in his answer.
‘If I had an opportunity to clone myself, I’d do it right now…I already know exactly my strengths and weaknesses. This person is gonna be the new and improved me, and would live the life I’ve always wanted to live.’
