It was 1886 when Carl Benz registered his newfangled vehicle
with a gas engine drive under ‘Patent Number 37435’ with the Berlin Patent Office.
This radical move gave birth to the automobile and revolutionalised travel and
transportation. As the inventor of the car as we know it today, Daimler
commemorated this historic milestone with near-simultaneous celebrations and
events around the world. In Singapore, the occasion was marked with a gala
dinner attended by more than 250 distinguished guests, business partners and loyal
Mercedes-Benz aficionados.

Speaking at the dinner, Mr Wolfgang
Huppenbauer, President and CEO of Daimler South East Asia Pte Ltd, said that
Mercedes-Benz is proud to have pioneered numerous innovations that have made the
automobile safer and more comfortable for drivers.

‘I am confident that 125 years in the
future, we will continue to break new ground and continue our passion for
invention. Mercedes-Benz has grown from strength to strength in Singapore. We
want to take this opportunity to thank all our loyal customers who trust in our
products and share our passion and enthusiasm for the automobile.

‘I want to congratulate Cycle & Carriage
Industries as they too celebrate 60 years of retailing Mercedes-Benz in
Singapore. Our long standing and robust partnership with Cycle and Carriage has
ensured that Mercedes-Benz remains consistently the most favoured luxury car
brand in Singapore,’ he said.
