Exciting news for automobile fans: the evocatively
named 1939 Pontiac Plexiglas Deluxe Six
Ghost Car will be placed under the hammer this month. The Ghost car
was the first full-sized transparent
car to be constructed, and will be up for sale at RM’s auction on
July 30 in Plymouth, Michigan.

Unveiled at the General Motors Highways and
Horizons pavilion at the 1939-40 World’s Fair in New York,
the Pontiac Transparent Car was based on the chassis of a 1939 Pontiac Deluxe
Six. With an exterior wrought from plexiglas, an acrylic derivative, the historic
vehicle’s translucent appearance allows for a detailed look at the interior
parts making up the Deluxe Six.

This particular 1939 Ghost Pontiac Plexiglas deluxe is the
only known survivor of two that were built. RM’s auction will be held in
conjunction with the world-renowned Concours d’Elegance of America,
the ultimate classic car weekend for vintage auto aficionados.
