Pumpkin Carving Party: Entertaining on a Budget

Turn up the spooky music and get your Halloween groove going with a pumpkin carving party. Gather a group of friends together and pick your pumpkins, then gather around a big kitchen table and get carving!

Tools:

§ A marker or pen to draw on your design before you begin cutting.

§ A serrated knife works well to cut out a hole in the bottom of the pumpkin. This is a place from which to scoop out the innards, as well as a nice way to level the pumpkin so it sits nicely.

§ A metal spoon to scoop out the seeds and goo from inside the pumpkin.

§ A smaller carving knife to cut out your design. Check out these templates for inspiration.

Lay down newspapers on the table and provide several bowls for the seeds and insides of the pumpkin to be placed. Also provide towels for your guests to wipe their hands clean so no one slips when holding a knife!

Don’t forget to save the seeds and roast them for a tasty and healthy snack – toss 2 cups of raw pumpkin seeds with 2 tablespoons of melted butter, spread seeds on a baking sheet and roast at 300 degrees for about 40 minutes. Salt to taste, and serve.

And remember, this is a party — so be sure to provide snacks such as dips and chips to munch on!
